The adults are small, thickly haired, broad-bodied flies, usually less than 5 mm (1/4 inch) in length. The wings are covered with hair, giving them a fury appearance. The big difference between Drain Flies and Fruit Flies is the color of their eyes.  Drain flies have black eyes.

Drain flies go through their life cycle in about 1 to 3 weeks. The adult drain flies can live for about 2 weeks after they are born. Drain fly eggs are laid in areas such as water traps in plumbing fixtures, around built in sinks and especially around garbage disposals where decaying matter is found usually in a restaurant kitchen, bar, or a residential home. They can be found resting on walls in kitchens, bathrooms and basements. A large infestation can cause problems and be a nuisance pest.

Advanced Wildlife Control – Drain Fly Control Methods:

Once we have determined that Drain Flies have infested your area, all potential breeding sites must be located and eliminated! If these sites are not dealt with and removed no matter how many chemicals we use, the problem will still persist. Sometimes finding the problem can be difficult and usually requires help from one of our experienced technicians. Potential areas that will need to be checked are any locations where fruit is stored, garbage disposals, drains, cupboards and even behind the refrigerator.

DID YOU KNOW?
Each female drain fly can produce about 100 eggs and under the perfect breeding circumstances development can be completed in two weeks.
