Opossums make up the largest order of marsupials in the Western Hemisphere, including 103 or more species. They are solitary, nocturnal and can live wherever there is food, water and shelter.  Getting rid of opossums is not easy and should be handled by a professional from Advanced Wildlife Control Inc.

A female opossum can give birth to as many as 20-25 babies, the young start out as tiny as honeybees! Babies immediately crawl into the mother’s pouch, where they continue to develop.  This is a characteristic of marsupials.  As they get larger, they will go in and out of the pouch and sometimes ride on the mother’s back as she hunts for food.  Opossum usually have two litters per year!   They can have babies only 12 days after breeding!!!

Opossum are scavengers and will eat just about anything including garbage, berries, mice, other animals, etc. They can be found under decks, overhangs, in garages, barns, sheds, basements, woodpiles, doghouses, burrows in the ground, and just about anywhere else they can find. Opossums are actually southern animals who have adapted themselves to the colder northern climate.  Opossums can have up to 50 teeth!

Advanced Wildlife Control methods for removal:

We live trap and relocate all of our animals including opossum.  Advanced Wildlife Control technicians have removed opossums from garages, decks, basements, yards, swimming pools, and even caught a few on rooftops (although extremely rare).  Opossum are thought to be easy animals to get rid of, but that’s not often the case. We catch opossum all over southeastern Wisconsin, one of the areas we catch the most opossum is in Waukesha, WI.

DID YOU KNOW?

Opossums are mostly immune to rabies, and in fact, they are eight times less likely to carry rabies compared to other animals!
