Red squirrels are smaller than a gray squirrel but larger than a chipmunk. Red squirrels are only 11 to 14 inches long. They only weigh 7 to 10 ounces. With the name red squirrel we know that they have a red appearance, with a bright white belly.

Red Squirrels mate from February to March and then again during a second season in June and July. The young squirrels are born about 38-40 days, and litter sizes range from 2-7. Advanced Wildlife Control generally catches 4 red squirrels per litter. The young, baby squirrels weigh only about 1/2 ounce when they are born, their skin is without fur and pinkish, and their eyes and ears are closed.

The red squirrel is omnivorous and eats whatever is available. Red squirrels are known as pine squirrels and love to feed on pine cones as a main source of food. If you have pine trees in your yard you can bet that the red squirrels will be living by you soon!

Perhaps the most daunting thing about red squirrels, as soon as you enter their territory, you will hear their chatter from hundreds of feet away. They bellow out a warning call as if to proclaim that you are somewhere you don’t belong. If you heard noise in your home and you have seen red squirrels outside in your yard, you can pretty much assume that it’s a red squirrel in your attic. They are the most ferocious of the three kinds of squirrels. They will attack the larger gray squirrels if they are too close to their homes. Red squirrels can enter on the ground as well as the roof. We have had them climb up walls, enter in crawl spaces, chew bottoms of garage doors all in an attempt to find shelter for their young.

Advanced Wildlife Control methods for removal:

We humanely trap and remove red squirrels from homes all over southeastern Wisconsin.  We seem to find red squirrels in Ozaukee County areas.  Red squirrels are drawn to pine trees and arborvitae trees throughout areas like Mequon, Bayside, River Hills, Cedarburg, and Grafton.  We typically remove over 200 red squirrels from homes around Milwaukee.

The red squirrel is the most aggressive tree squirrel in Wisconsin and would kill a gray squirrel if it felt threatened!
