Cottontail rabbits are wild rabbits found all over North and South America.  In the United States, cottontail rabbits reside all over the country, both in colder and warmer climates. Their size can range anywhere from 8 t0 20 inches in length and can weigh more than 4 pounds. We will never have a shortage of rabbits due to the fact that they breed at least three to four times a year. Litters of three to seven young are produced. Baby rabbits are called kits and are born blind as well as hairless.  Rabbit burrows are often placed right in the middle of your yard with a few leaves and grass over the top of them.

Rabbits eat everything green it seems. Rabbits are herbivores and eat leafy plants in the spring and summer months and wood bark in Wisconsin’s cold winter months.

Wisconsin rabbits (cottontail) are usually found in brushy regions on the edges of woods. Rabbits also live in marshes, grasslands, swamps, near bushes and under decks. The male rabbit is called a buck and the female is called a doe.  Rabbits can live up to 8-12 years in the wild.
